{"id":211,"date":"2009-11-01T02:19:30","date_gmt":"2009-11-01T07:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/?p=211"},"modified":"2009-11-01T02:22:53","modified_gmt":"2009-11-01T07:22:53","slug":"things-that-mean-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/index.php\/2009\/11\/things-that-mean-progress\/","title":{"rendered":"Things that mean progress."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So a few years ago, I got it into my head that I was going to learn to sew.\u00a0 I bought a sewing maching at wal-mart, some fabric and a pattern to make Kobe some pajamas.\u00a0 I dutifully cut out the fabric and pinned it, ready to make something handmade for my dear, loving son to wear.<\/p>\n<p>Things didn&#8217;t go quite as well as I would have liked.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t get the speed to work for me, my stitches were wonky and uneven, and the fabric puckered.\u00a0 I put it away, thinking after a few days of peace I&#8217;d come back to it.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward 3 years, and you&#8217;ll find me today, deciding (again) that I can totally do this &#8211; no way is some stupid machine going to make me admit defeat &#8211; and maybe starting with something smaller is the way to go.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I decided to make a camera strap cover, and found this awesome step by step guide over at <a href=\"http:\/\/photojojo.com\/content\/diy\/reversible-camera-strap-cover\/\">Photojojo<\/a>, which incidentally is becoming a very handy site for me.<\/p>\n<p>Off I go, on Halloween day to Hancock&#8217;s Fabric to pick up something cute and quirky to make the strap out of.\u00a0 I find something I kind of like, wait in line for 30 minutes to check out, but get home too close to trick or treating time to really get a handle on it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s only later, around 12:30am, when I&#8217;m trying to stay awake because I have to remote in to stupid work to do some Daylight Savings Time changes, that I decide that sewing is the perfect thing to keep me up.\u00a0 At best, everything comes out perfect, and my hour of trying to stay awake ends in an immaculate camera strap, the likes of which cannot be found even in high end specialty stores the world over.\u00a0 At worst, I get pissed off and give up, cursing the day I decided to expand my creative outlets, but at least I stay awake.\u00a0\u00a0 I was mostly hoping for something in the middle.\u00a0 Which, actually is about where I ended up.\u00a0 Take a look.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Camera Strap\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2422\/4062752099_a77d0e665a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Is it perfect?\u00a0 HELL no.\u00a0 Is it wonky and loose in some places and tight as a proflactic in others?\u00a0 You bet your sweet ass it is.\u00a0 Is the stitching even close to being uniform?\u00a0 Please, please don&#8217;t examine it too closely.\u00a0 Are those strings hanging out of the end supposed to be there? Hey &#8211; get off my case, I&#8217;m still learning!
