{"id":528,"date":"2010-07-13T13:55:32","date_gmt":"2010-07-13T18:55:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/?p=528"},"modified":"2010-07-13T13:55:32","modified_gmt":"2010-07-13T18:55:32","slug":"mid-week-catchup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/index.php\/2010\/07\/mid-week-catchup\/","title":{"rendered":"Mid Week Catchup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a busy week here in Mississippi.\u00a0 So much so that I decided to catch y&#8217;all up!<br \/>\nFirst &#8211; I took a sewing class with my friend <a href=\"www.catraggedy.com\">Tracee<\/a> last Saturday.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had a sewing machine for a couple of years but could never get my threading tension to work for me.\u00a0 Incredibly frustrating, and I had no idea why.\u00a0 Well, if you watched <a href=\"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/?p=521\">Episode 16<\/a>, then (no doubt to your amusement), you know that my whole issue was that no one ever told me to put the presser foot down after threading the machine.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d been trying to sew with the presser foot in the up position.\u00a0 For somewhere around 3 years (though very sporadically).\u00a0 When the lady teaching the class explained that I needed to put that down, it was like a light bulb going off in my head, and wham!\u00a0 I was off.\u00a0 I managed to sew a few straight lines on a piece of scrap fabric and decided I was going to be a master seamstress!\u00a0 Watch out world!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the store was closing as the class ended, so I didn&#8217;t get to browse to my heart&#8217;s content.\u00a0 I did go back the next day, and picked up a &#8220;Domestic Diva&#8221; apron kit (not this exact one, but I can&#8217;t find the one I got online):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Apron\" src=\"http:\/\/www.joann.com\/images\/14\/62\/8\/xprd146280_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"304\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all the different fabrics (main, accent pocket cutouts, etc) all preprinted on a one yard piece of cotton.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a photo of the whole thing, freshly unwrapped:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"apronfabric\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4140\/4784828195_9d3c9a5914.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That afternoon, I set to cutting!\u00a0 I got all the pieces cut and pinned in the appropriate spots.\u00a0 I did the zigzag thing over the edges to prevent fraying and did the seaming thingie.\u00a0 (very technical words today)\u00a0 Photographic proof even that I was the one doing the sewing:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"sewing\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4119\/4785460850_dd1c96b1b3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I also learned that making straps is a giant PITA.\u00a0 Turning those things inside out after sewing 3 of 4 ends closed was a huge hassle and I might have busted the seam in a couple of spots and just re-sewed it on the outside (but I&#8217;m not telling!) because really, who&#8217;s going to criticize the sewing on a cupcake apron?\u00a0 Right.<\/p>\n<p>Finally after a few hours of work, I was done!\u00a0 Mr. Awesome was gracious enough to pose wearing my FIRST SEWED THING and I&#8217;m very proud of it!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"finishedapron\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4099\/4785461278_a7141d5021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So YAY I have finished a sewing project!\u00a0 It&#8217;s not even a little bit perfect, but it&#8217;s a start!\u00a0 I&#8217;d love to dive into something else, but I&#8217;m not sure what yet.\u00a0 Any ideas for the sewing beginner?\u00a0 I am not much into skirts but might try one later.\u00a0 What other types of projects are beginner friendly?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a busy week here in Mississippi.\u00a0 So much so that I decided to catch y&#8217;all up!
