{"id":739,"date":"2010-11-30T15:18:45","date_gmt":"2010-11-30T20:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/?page_id=739"},"modified":"2011-03-09T16:55:36","modified_gmt":"2011-03-09T21:55:36","slug":"faqs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/index.php\/faqs\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQ&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong>How did you two meet?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><em><strong> <\/strong><\/em>Laura &amp; Leslie met at a now defunct yarn shop in Hernando, MS in the summer of 2007.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>What made you decide to start a shared blog?<\/strong><em><strong> <\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div>Although Laura claims inspiration from the Mason-Dixon blog, we assumed that between the (then) three of us, we would be able to keep the content fairly regular.\u00a0 We&#8217;re all a little bit lazy, as our post history pre-podcast will attest.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>How did you name the blog?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>We wanted something catchy, but all the good stuff was taken.\u00a0 TheKnitGirllls is a spoof of the term &#8220;The It Girls&#8221;, and the three L&#8217;s are a reflection of our names beginning with L.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>What made you want to podcast?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Our friend  Jackie had started her podcast <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kipingitreal.com\">Kiping it Real<\/a> and that gave us the  initial idea but decided we wanted to be able to show what we were  working on (like Carin from <a href=\"http:\/\/roundthetwistwithcarin.blogspot.com\">Round The Twis<\/a>t) so we decided to videocast.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Whose idea was it to start the blog\/ podcast?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>It was a mutual lightbulb moment.\u00a0 We threw around the idea for a few days and then decided on a random weekend to go for it.\u00a0 Now we look forward to sharing our craft each week with all of you.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>What is your very favorite type\/brand of yarn to use?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura says: I love knitting with handspun yarn, there is just something about it that commercial yarn just can&#8217;t touch.<\/div>\n<div>Leslie says: Whatever I&#8217;m knitting with right now.\u00a0 I cannot possibly choose one.\u00a0 A top ten list might be easier.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>How do you decide what type of needles to use when knitting socks?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura says: For me, it depends on the pattern.\u00a0 I prefer to  use DPNs with top down patterns that are easily split over 4 needles. If  it works better over 2 needles, then I use 2 circs.\u00a0 I love 2 circs for  toe-up socks.<\/div>\n<div>Leslie says: I tend to stick with magic loop for most of my socks.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Do you prefer 16 or 24 in. circulars when knitting socks?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura says:I  like 16 inch although when I was first learning, I used a 16 inch and a  24 inch so that I would be able to tell my needles apart easier.<\/div>\n<div>Leslie says: I prefer to use 32&#8243; circs for socks.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>What\u2019s your ONE favorite item to knit?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura says: I  love small portable objects. \u00a0 I was obsessed with hats for a long time  and after knitting myself around 20 I needed something new. \u00a0 Beck had  also learned how to knit socks first and was taunting me (There is  nothing like an annoying little sister to make you learn something  new).\u00a0 So I learned how to knit socks.\u00a0 Now that I&#8217;ve knit over a  hundred pairs, I&#8217;ve started knitting more shawls.\u00a0 Who knows what my  next favorite object will be to knit?<\/div>\n<div>Leslie says: Whatever I&#8217;m working on right now.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>What wheel do you each have?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura has a Schacht Ladybug.\u00a0 She had an Ashford Traveler for a while, but it now lives with Beck.<\/div>\n<div>Leslie has a Schacht Matchless.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Do you design patterns?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Yes.  You can find Laura&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/designers\/laura-linneman\">here<\/a> and Leslie&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/designers\/leslie-thompson\"> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Do you dye yarn?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Sometimes Laura does, when she&#8217;s in the mood.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Do you knit english or continental? Can you do both?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura can both knit in English, Continental, and Portuguese. She can purl in English or Portuguese.<\/div>\n<div>Leslie can knit in the same ways, but is fastest in and prefers the English method.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>What are your favorite types of needles?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Laura likes Signatures, Addis, or Knitpicks.<\/div>\n<div>Leslie sticks with Knitpicks nickel plated or Addi&#8217;s when given the choice.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Leslie &#8211; Do you ever knit with the yarn behind you in the podcast (  on the wall). I think those colors have been hanging there since the  first show? <\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Apparently not! That&#8217;s my handspun, and I do not knit with it often enough.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laura &#8211; have you ever thought about taking any of those skeins home with you?\u2026.when Leslie\u2019s not looking of course\u2026\u2026\u2026;)<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>I&#8217;d go for her Wollmeise collection instead.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Why do the file sizes differ between episodes? <\/strong><\/div>\n<div>We get this question often.\u00a0 We are still relatively new to video podcasting, so\u00a0 we are constantly tweaking the recording settings, compression rates, and video quality after conversion.\u00a0 Our goal is to bring you a clear, concise video podcast each week (chatter notwithstanding).\u00a0 While we understand that the higher file size does hinder those with daily bandwidth restrictions from easily viewing, we feel that a high quality video is important.<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Are you coming to (enter fiber event title here)?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>Our travel dates are listed <a href=\"http:\/\/theknitgirllls.com\/index.php\/cast-crew\/events\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 Feel free to recommend some more!<\/p>\n<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Will LaLa\u2019s mom and\/or dad ever make a cameo?
