What is Stash Dash?
Stash Dash is a virtual dash to use up stash and/or finish some WIPs. Crafts included in stash dash are knitting, spinning, crochet, tatting, loom knitting, machine knitting, macrame, and weaving. This is only a competition against yourself.
This year we will have 1K or goals below, 3K, 5K, 7k, 10k and 15K or goals above levels. The chatter thread is the perfect place to keep track of your progress, chit chat about goals, and complement each other on your lovely crafting!
What is the timeline for this madness?
Stash Dash will begin at 12:01am on May 27th and will run through 11:59pm August 31st
What’s a finish line?
Each different level will have it’s own finish line. Once you declare yourself by posting in a finish line level, we ask that you stick with it. Those of you that use this as a motivation game can start posting in your goal level on day 1. Others can wait until a few weeks or even days before the end of the race.
You can post everytime you finish something or as often as you like. Some people find it helpful to create picture collages or take a picture of all their FOs once a week to cut down on the number of pics loading in the thread. That would be amazing!
But can I count…?
Basically, if you are finishing something after the start date, have done one of the crafts listed above on it, can figure out the meters used, and you think it should count, you can count it. We don’t award prizes based on meters used or goals met. Stash Dash is for you. Leslie and I will award prizes and gifts based on awesomeness, not quantity.
Can we count things towards stash dash that we finish before May 27th?
No, you must do some form of that crafts work on it. If it’s knitting, you can knit a row or bind off to make it count. If its spinning, you can use plying unless its an unplied
Do we use yards or meters to track our progress?
Meters.
I have a ton of blanket squares that just need seamed, can I count
them?
In order to count a progress as a WIP, we ask that you have a little knitting, crocheting, tatting, weaving, or spinning/plying left to do on it. If you have a bind-off or more left, that’s cool. If you are adding an edging using knitting, crochet, weaving, machine knitting, etc, that counts. If you are crocheting your squares together, cool. In this case just seaming or kitchnering will not count
When does yarn become “stash?”
At any time before or during the dash when it enters your possession
What happens if I don’t finish an object?
You have to finish it for it to count. You can count single items if they are done but the pair is not complete (example, one sock or mitten may be counted) You may count single blanket squares or hexipuffs. If you are working on a large project such as a mitered square blanket, you can count the individual squares you finish during the dash, but not the entire blanket, unless you finish it.
Can I double dip with other KALs?
Go for it! You can use this with as many other KALs as you can make work
How do I measure spinning?
Spinning is measured by the total number of meters that has passed through the orifice. So if you do a 3 ply, you count the total meters x 4 (3 plies plus the final plied meters). Cables make it a little trickier to measure, but if you let Laura know by hot linking her, she will be happy to help.
If I hold yarn doubled, do I get to count it twice?
You may count the total amount of yarn you use if it is doubled (or even more) this year.
How do I measure my meterage? Do I just go by what the patterns says?
I encourage you to use a scale to get an accurate count, but do whatever works best for you.
Does weaving in ends, sewing on buttons, adding ribbon or a pompom count?
Only if you did some form of one of the accepted crafts during the stash dash time period.
Do I count the meters in my pop pom or fringe?
Yes, if you did some of an approved craft work on the item during stash dash.
Can I cast on new projects or are only WIPs allowed?
Both Wips and new projects are allowed. Do whatever makes you happy.
If I rip back and reknit something, can I count the meters for the whole thing?
Yes, even if you just rip back part of it.
If I am repairing something and need to reknit a part (like replacing the toe of a sock) can I count it?
Yes.
If I have a pair of something and one is already done, do I count the yardage of just the second one, or both?
Both
If I frog something and reknit can I count the yardage twice?
Just the finished yardage used in the piece counts
What about sock machines? Can I count tubes if I am sending them off and they are finished? What if I buy a sock tube that someone else cranks?
I want people to do what they think is fair. If you crank the tube and add heels etc, then you can count the entire piece. If you crank a tube and are sending it off and consider it done and think you should count it, then count it. If you buy a tube and knit the toes, heels, and cuffs and want to figure out how much added knitting you did, then you can count the pieces you added.
I’m doing some weaving, can I count my waste?
No, you can count the meters you used on your woven piece for warp and weft. If you added fringe after, you can also count those meters.
