TheKnitGirllls Episode 27 – Spinning-riffic

Please enjoy episode 27 – where we have almost no knitting to speak of but there is a fair amount of spinning content, and a Spin-Off review.

Shownotes to follow.

Laura is knitting…

Cheshire Cat colorway ball being made into some toe-up socks from Twisted Limone Designs (1 down, 1 to go).  Her group on Ravelry can be found here

A shawl ( to be named) out of Hello Yarn fiber in the cauldron colorway.  This is part of the 4oz challenge.

Leslie is knitting…

Primavera Socks out of Wollmeise in the Campari Orange in Twin.

Leslie is finished…

Her FOP square out of Encore Tweed in Red.

Leslie is spinning…

Leslie has finished spinning the Hello Yarn fiber (Dyed by Leslie and Stacy) that inspired That’s What She Said colorway from Tempted.  It is 3-plied and is a heavy sport.

She has also finished spinning some Sanguine Gryphon in the Monkey Wrench color in her Merino/Silk Blend.

Laura’s vote for Leslie’s next spinning is All Spun Up

Favorite Things…

We love how many people left comments last week! Rohanknitter is the winner of the Soak.  Please pm me on Ravelry with your address.

Spinoff Magazine review.  Great articles, but I’m not so much of a fan of the paterns (BTW, I like the Netherlands, but I’m not so interested in the fiber shops there right now).

Let us know how you like Weekend Knits.

Another review of Bitch Bubbly.

Bevlery Love sent us some awesome presents.  Thank you Beverly!

Socktoberfest is coming soon!  I have some Vesper, Yarn Pirate, and Dyeabolical to knit with.  The Dyeabolical will become the Through the Loops Mystery socks.  Help me figure out a pattern for the Yarn Pirate!

KAL coming soon!

Leslie has worked her website magic and has added an episode list page.

Thank y’all for being so sweet!  We love y’all!

About Leslie

Leslie is obsessed with knitting, and when possible, perfection in her knitting. All stripey socks must match exactly and all lace must be blocked severely. She has major love for all of her viewers/readers and hopes to keep blogging and podcasting for years to come.

  1. Loved all the handspun! Leslie, the one you are sending to Wendy is amazing!! Laura, I’m totally loving your Twisted Limone socks. And thank for the Socktoberfest reminder. I am going to do my best to crank out at least two pair. And I’m another Halloween lover. I need to go on the hunt for some fun Halloween sock yarn now. Another awesome episdoe 🙂

You really spin up some beautiful yarn. I wish I could master that spinning thing. Someday I’ll try it again.

I didn’t see enough in Interweave Accessories to move me to buy a copy. I would like to make the big tote bag from it though.

As for Socktoberfest, I have three pairs on needles right now, hmmmm…would they count. I’m just like Laura, lots on the needles.

    You are most welcome ladies.
The spinning wheel orifice hooks were from the Etsy shop Muddy Paws.

Confession: I have been really lazy about taking pictures of my socks and spinning, I finally got all caught up and posted them. Looks like a lot when you post a months worth of finished objects. 😉

I love the Halloween sock yarn colorways. I think the Yarn Pirate would look great in the Horcrux sock pattern, it has dropped stitches and works up quickly.

I also love the That’s What She Said, it is so pretty all spun up and plied.

It’s funny, I re-watch your episodes, and Carin’s, all the time. I never get tired of them (perhaps I need a non-virtual knitting buddy, but whateva’ LOL). I think this may have been the funniest episode though, it was so good I am going to watch it again tomorrow.

Thanks for the show, Knit Girllls, I enjoyed it as always. The spinning is so pretty – I really love the skein of the handspun you did for Wendy. If I keep watching you guys I think I am going to end up trying to get my hands on a spinning wheel one of these days. I couldn’t believe when you said I won the Soak sampler — woohoo!!! Thanks a bunch!!!

  5. Sarah says:

Another great episode…Socktober fest sounds like tons of fun, but I doubt I get more then one pair in.

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chopstick-socks – Chopstick socks are great for variegated yarn too, maybe check those out, they knit up quick and were pretty fun!

  6. Another fun and great episode! 🙂 LOVE all the handspun! Can’t wait until I am done with my FoPASS and my LYS knitting so that I can get back to my wheel! 🙂

Question for you, Leslie: You guys record on a Flip brand camra, yes? Looking into purchasing one. Do you have the 4 or 8 GB? How do you feel about it?

  7. Olivia says:

I looked at Weekend Knits and saw some stuff I liked but didn’t buy. I’ve already got a big enough magazine collection and by the time I’m ready to knit any of the patterns they’ll be available for download.

Never had the Bitch Bubbly but Bitch’s Grenache is seriously good.

  8. Bets says:

Laura, I had a lot of fun making the Slip Up Socks:

Thanks for another fun show 🙂

  9. Julie says:

Loved the show, as always! I would like to suggest that Laura make the Jekyll & Hyde socks (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jekyll–hyde) with the Yarn Pirate yarn!

  10. Karen says:

Another great show! I agree with Laura. I hope Leslie will spin the All Spun Up next. It’s lovely.

  11. Eileen says:

I think that the “Shelves Upon Shelves” socks would be a great slip-stitch pattern for Laura. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/shelves-upon-shelves

I picked up the Interweave Weekend at my LYS specifically so I can make the Vining Vest (p12). I am also thinking about knitting the Mariner Pullover (p15) for my soon-to-be-born Great Nephew William. He is to be named for my father (a former Navy man) and so the “mariner” pullover seems apt.

I like the Trellis Socks (p.30) and the Brioche Rib Cardigan (p.56). I can really see my son wearing the cardigan—he LOVES handknits. The Briseis Pullover (p53) caught my eye but I think it’s mostly the yarn. Who doesn’t love yarn by Blue Moon? If I knit the sweater I would keep the sleeves plain and only have the lace in the front of the sweater.

I’m anxious to see what everyone else says.

  12. LoriAngela says:

I so apreciate the fun and friendliness you bring to your show. I watched this one on my ipad while working out on the Nordictrak- two birds, but lost knitting time. I am so bitten by the spinning bug since I met a spinolution machine in Oregon. What are your thoughts on that model?

  13. Helena says:

oh no i have caught up and there is no more podcasts for me to watch. I have been sick with a horrid flue for the past week and i hadnt watched the last 15 or so episodes so i watched them all as i lay in bed after getting out of work early. now i’ll have to find some other way to amuse myself while i knit my Icarus Shawl.

Thanks so much for a fun podcast. I found it not too long after you started from the plug Carin gave you when you first started. but i didnt watch for a while and i am happy that i wend back and caught up.

I am so in love with all the yarns and fibers and patterns that you show. you are true enablers and once i catch some of the yarns that you show (which always seem to be out of stock when i look) i will be spending lots of monies.

    Thanks

    Helena
