Episode 43 – Where We Wear Shrek Ears

Laura and Leslie show their FO’s in String Theory Yarn as well as other WIP’s and FO’s. Laura reviews the latest KnitScene magazine and another booklet. We talk about Twisted Strands Podcast and other sundry items.

String Theory discount code is “KNITGIRLLLS10”, and is valid for 60 days! If she doesn’t have exactly what you want posted, just PM her for a special order!

Here we go, Steelers, here we go!  Pittsburgh’s going to the Super Bowl!

Laura is knitting on Washington Square out of New Zealand Aran Wool from the stash. I’m also knitting Urbana by Stephen West for the Selfish Knits KAL.  It’s out of Malabrigo Rios in the Archangel colorway.  Ishbel is on the needles, but you can’t see it because I forgot it.  I’ve also cast on some socks out Twisted Fiber Arts in the Ravelry colorway.

Leslie is knitting on Slable by Wolly Wormhead (my favorite hat designer).  She is knitting it out of Dragonfly Djinni in “Blue Spruce.”  She is also knitting on some Master Knitter Swatches.

Laura is done with Elphaba Mitts out of String Theory Duality in the Dark Matter colorway.

Leslie is done with the Spot Check socks out of Numma Numma and Lime and Violet. She also did some cross stitch from Subversive Cross-stitch.

Leslie has had some progress with her spinning and I have finished “the batt that sheds” singles.

Favorite Things:

Twisted Strands Podcast: Hilarious and not child safe.

Laura is in love with Stephen West and has purchased his Clockwork pattern.

I went to Shrek the musical as a daddy/daughter date. It was really funny!

I got a new book and Magazine.  Shetland Trader by Gudrun Johnston is a wonderful little pattern book (Yay Indie Books!). I also got the new Knitscene.  There are quite a few patterns we like (sorry that my close ups are a little off).

We love Knitting Without Tears and all Elizabeth Zimmerman books.

We picked up some new stash at Loop in Tulsa, OK.  Leslie got some Madelintosh Pashmina in Turquose.  I got some Vintage Chunky by Berroco and Be Sweet Bamboo Taffy.

About Leslie

Leslie is obsessed with knitting, and when possible, perfection in her knitting. All stripey socks must match exactly and all lace must be blocked severely. She has major love for all of her viewers/readers and hopes to keep blogging and podcasting for years to come.

Great episode……you both always make me laugh. I am a fan of String Theory Yarns and glad that you reviewed her yarns. Unfortunately, now she is going to get really popular and harder to get!!!

Another great show , thanks again. I love how the String Theory yarn stripes . Thanks for all the yarn porn. I woild love to look over your shoulders while each of you knit . I had thought it would be so cool to see the “EYES” on the back wall so it was nice getting to view them while you’ll kept us in stitches.
I enjoy cross stitch so I really think it is great that we are getting some views, you did a great job.
I had thought when the stellers won tonight you would mention it LOUDLY , thats the breaks when you record early you don’t get bragging rights.

First, I love how you both seem so natural while wearing Shrek ears. Second, I love how super red Laura’s face got when Leslie said, “That’s what she said” when y’all were talking about the hairy handspun.

  4. Jessica says:

This was a great episode–informative, interesting, definitely entertaining. I was cracking up at the beginning with the Shrek ears because Laura has this “this is awesome!” look on her face, while Leslie has the “I’m totally mortified” look going on. I also thought it was amusing that after about 3 minutes into the podcast, the Shrek ears looked totally normal and natural on you guys. I wonder what that means?

  5. Sarah says:

Another great episode!! I have those same Shrek ears from when the first movie came out, they make anyone that wears them look ridiculously cute some how 🙂

Also- someone in my knitting group had the Clockwork shawl last week and I LOVED hers! I can’t wait to make one of my own. And the Madelintosh Pashmina… whatever color that is, it’s gorgeous!!

  6. Geal says:

I love this episode. Laura drops stitches and leans forward to concentrate on picking them up and then you see the poster behind her. Keep calm, keep knitting.
